Many people say that they want to be a doctor, but very few follow through with that promise. Becoming a doctor takes years of hard studying, work, and practice. Even those who begin the path often find themselves changing course because they don’t realize the time commitment.

This never deterred Dr. Cameron Lewis who knew he wanted to be in the medical field from age 12, so that is exactly what he did. In fact, for Dr. Lewis, figuring out he wanted to be a doctor was not the hard part, but rather what type of doctor he was going to be!

“At age 12, I knew I wanted to be a doctor, but didn’t know what kind of doctor until I experienced the turmoil in South Africa around 2001. I explored the packed emergency rooms, examining patients who waited for treatment for a long period of time. However, one thing that caught my eye was the viewing of patients in the ER, holding their mouths, suffering from pain,” Dr. Lewis recounts.

This gave Dr. Lewis the moment of inspiration that he needed. He decided from that moment on that oral surgery was the field for him. Dr. Lewis started a business corporation called Cameron Lewis LLC in private practice, specializing in oral maxillofacial surgery in New York and Connecticut in 2014. He is now an independent contractor (traveling Oral Surgeon) bringing his services to 20 different locations.

“I was able to explore other dental offices around New York and research areas in need of my services. My personality makes me unique because of my positive mindset to guide others to greatness. I try to be a blessing to so many people, because I empower others to have success in their life. I want my legacy to be the lives that I am able to touch,” Dr. Lewis states.

What has helped Dr. Lewis keep going through all the work and long hours of being in the medical profession is his faith and positive mindset and attitude. He truly believes that his work is important and can change lives for the better.

“I believe that you have to keep a positive mindset in your business even through difficult times; and work through adversity by staying consistent and persistent as your business continues to grow. The things that keep me going when times get tough is my impenetrable faith. By having faith, I believe I am keeping something visual to hold on to, to keep me going.  I did not work alone, but incorporated a team to help me through the good and bad times,” Dr. Lewis says.

Dr. Lewis is continuing to do the things that he loves and helping people day in and day out! He details his future plans below:

“I executive produced a faith based film called “A Question of Faith” that was released in theaters worldwide. In July 2018, I joined the committee to give back to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Autism Awareness to help raise funds for families who have children with Autism to receive the primary health care and training that is needed for adequate care. I will continue his legacy by giving back, uplifting, encouraging, and empowering every young person to persevere their way through to get to their dreams. I believe your dreams are well alive.”
