Carolina Zarate is a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur who runs a micropigmentation academy and a dermatological and aesthetic center. She is a Venezuelan cosmetologist, who is studying medicine at the University of Antioquia, Colombia and who has an extensive trajectory in the area of micropigmentation. What’s more, Carolina developed the recognized work methodology “The Organic Way of PMU” and the training courses “Health in the PMU” and “Organic Lips”, with great success.
Up to date, she’s the first and only ambassador of the Perma Blend brand Colombia, which is the largest and most positioned brand of permanent makeup products in the international market. As if that were not enough, Carolina also has a wide community of students in more than 13 countries who learn and practice her innovative technique in their home countries.
“In 2019 I decided to start my own business, since I didn’t want to see myself working for the same company for over 30 years. So I decided to take a chance, jump into the void and give myself the opportunity to achieve success on my own”, Carolina shares.
Currently, her company is one of the best aesthetic academies and centers in Colombia, widely recognized for the quality of their procedures, the cutting-edge technology they use and the effective results their team members provide. In fact, Carolina was one of 140 participants to beat the Guinness Record for most artists performing microblading in one hour, a record she achieved in Cali, Colombia, in 2022, and that established her as an authority and a leader within the industry.
“My motto is ‘ethics and aesthetics hand in hand with health’. My approach is focused on providing a comprehensive service. Our cosmetic tattoo center counts with medical personnel specialized in dermatology to guarantee full theoretical knowledge, since although practice is important, theory is the fundamental key for the prevention and minimization of risks”, she adds.
Carolina also provides free content relating medicine to micropigmentation through social media, in order to strengthen the theoretical foundations of all her colleagues who’re interested in expanding their knowledge in the area of physiology and anatomy. That’s why she’s constantly posting her techniques and knowledge and helping other professionals to provide more comprehensive and safe procedures.
Seeing how successful Carolina is today, it’s easy to think that her start in the business world was easy. But quite the opposite. To get to where she is today, she has had to face some difficulties including overcoming her upbringing in the Venezuelan dictatorship, which did not allow her to have a good administrative education, much less about entrepreneurship. In addition, the death of her mother was another important challenge that she had to overcome, as well as the arrival of the covid-19 pandemic, which transformed the entire market just six months after opening her business.
But, thanks to her determination to succeed, Carolina not only overcame all these obstacles, but also established herself as a big personality in her industry, widely recognized not only in Colombia but in many other countries.
“For me, success means living in harmony, with freedom and helping those who need it. Success does not depend on money, as many may think. When we first immigrated to Colombia with only our dreams in a suitcase, we were just as happy as now, owning 3 successful companies and enjoying financial freedom!”, Carolina comments.
Though she is already working incredibly hard with her different businesses, she is not planning on slowing down anytime soon. Carolina plans to found a first-class aesthetic clinic that will offer all the services that their patients desire from the best doctors in the country, achieving a multidisciplinary approach that is exponentially beneficial for everyone.
Without a doubt, Carolina’s story is a source of hard work and inspiration not only to female entrepreneurs, but to all of us. To find out more about her work, click here.
