Fencing is an excellent sport for people of all ages.  It is a fun and engaging activity that can be done year-round in a variety of different venues.  Fencing promotes individual initiative and discipline as well as respect, sportsmanship, and a well-rounded form of mental and physical exercise essential for total health and wellness.

What ‘s more, fencing is an elegant modern sport that has been enjoyed by people around the world since the middle ages! This elegant, prestigious combat sport heralds a rich historical tradition of weaponry and war.

Sounds interesting? That ‘s when Punta Sala de Esgrima comes in! The academy focuses on teaching groups and individual classes of Fencing, to anyone from 5 years of age, no matter the complexion. The only thing that students need to have is an amazing desire to practice this beautiful sport!

“What motivates us as an academy is that fencing remains alive through many people. The business came up as a spontaneous idea, we saw the need to have a place to practice fencing since in Mexico it’s really difficult to find a place to develop this European practice”, explains Thalia Espinosa, CEO of Punta Sala de Esgrima.

What makes the academy stand out is the methodology they apply in all their training, how much they care for their students and clients and the great professionalism they provide. Plus, all their teachers and team members are highly trained and represent experts in the area.

Punta Sala de Esgrima has been teaching the art of fencing in Mexico for over 5 years, with great success and hundreds of satisfied students. One of their main objectives is to train successful fencers through their principles, values and professional ethic and to contribute to creating a comprehensive space for all athletes.

“Thanks to our perseverance, Punta Sala de Esgrima has been very successful. We really care about all our students, we train athletes to become excellent people! Also, there are no fencing academies in this part of Mexico. It has been difficult to be able to offer this service since it is a very specific sport, but we have succeeded”, adds Thalia.

The benefits of practicing fencing are endless. To be a successful fencer athletes must become graceful, aggressive, strategic, and strong. So practicing fencing provides myriad exercises for the body and the mind. The physical benefits of fencing include increased coordination, agility, balance, flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular endurance. While fencing is a whole-body workout, it exercises the arms, thighs and hips. People will also benefit from fencing by gaining greater mental agility.

“Punta Sala de Esgrima has had many victories, national and international. Our objective is the consolidation of our brand through our results, and above all through humanism and emotional stability, providing our clients with the security that their children are in good hands and that they are learning something for a lifetime. Fencing means respect for others”, Thalia details.

But of course, not everything has been easy on their journey. When creating Punta Sala de Esgrima Thalia faced diverse challenges, the biggest of them being the general ignorance of the public towards the sport of fencing. Making this sport well known in Mexico and making people fall in love with it was a great obstacle that she and her team successfully overcame!

Their are stepping into 2023 with big goals and aspirations, as she describes them below:

“We want to make the team compete at a national level in the national selectives and in the national games, so we can project ourselves internationally next year! One of our next steps is also to continue professionalizing, more and more, to all our clients.”

The truth is that fencing is a great sport for children because it appeals to their sense of play in a non-violent way. It also provides positive interaction with other peers and adults. They will also learn that without enough effort, they will become their own obstacle to success. Learning this lesson early in life will pay off! It teaches self-responsibility because only the fencer can score a point. No one can do it for them. This is also one of the few sports that parents can learn along with their children! And, of course, if you ask any fencer, they’ll tell you that practicing this sport is really fun!
