She is now developing educational programs, virtual training, speaking engagements and strategic collaborations for executives, entrepreneurs and professionals seeking to strengthen their positioning.

Her first planned initiative is a structured webinar designed to help participants clarify their professional narratives, communicate their value and build authority from the beginning of their positioning journey. Additional programs and partnerships are being developed for audiences in Mexico, other Latin American markets and the United States.

“Harvard confirmed that this work can resonate beyond Mexico,” Esponda said. “The next step is to turn the methodology into accessible programs that help more leaders communicate their value with clarity and authority.”

Through Personal Power, Esponda works with leaders to develop what she describes as an architecture of personal power: the alignment of narrative, authority and presence to create stronger professional positioning.

Her work is based on the premise that qualifications and experience do not automatically lead to recognition. Professionals must also be able to explain what they represent, why their work matters and how their expertise contributes to organizations, industries and communities.

During the congress, Esponda connected with women from the United States, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and Colombia. Those conversations revealed similar challenges across different professional and cultural environments, including reluctance to claim authority, speak publicly about accomplishments or pursue greater visibility.

The discussions reinforced Esponda’s view that the gap between professional ability and public recognition is an international leadership issue rather than one limited to a particular country or industry.

Her methodology addresses three patterns she frequently observes among accomplished women. The first is “silent overqualification,” in which professionals continue accumulating credentials and experience without positioning themselves as recognized authorities.

The second is a “borrowed narrative,” which occurs when professionals communicate mainly through the language and identity of the organizations they represent without developing a clear voice of their own.

The third is the belief that professional visibility is unnecessary or overly self-promotional. Esponda’s approach instead treats visibility as a practical leadership tool that enables expertise and ideas to reach decision-makers, clients and broader audiences.

The planned expansion of Personal Power will focus on narrative development, executive presence, thought leadership and professional differentiation. Esponda also intends to produce new publications and intellectual property exploring the relationship between communication, identity and leadership.

Her professional background combines communication strategy, executive positioning, business education and human rights research. Esponda holds an MBA from IPADE Business School and a doctorate in Human Rights Culture.

She has collaborated with organizations including the Mexican Social Security Institute, Tecnológico de Monterrey and COPARMEX. She has also written for media outlets and presented her methodology at professional forums including Talent Land.

Following the Harvard appearance, Esponda’s next phase will center on expanding access to her methodology, establishing partnerships and bringing her programs to a broader community of executives, entrepreneurs and emerging leaders.

Communication strategist and positioning consultant Marilú Esponda is preparing to expand her Personal Power platform across Latin America and the United States following her participation in the Global Women’s Leadership Congress held at Harvard earlier this year.
