Those expelled had been declared “traitors to the homeland” and permanently disqualified from exercising public office as well as holding positions of popular election “remaining suspended their citizen rights in perpetuity,” indicated the Nicaraguan Justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the beneficiaries of the measure would be Felix Maradiaga, a former presidential candidate, as confirmed by his wife Bertha Valle in an audio published on her social networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of January 2023, there were 245 political prisoners in Nicaragua in the country, according to the Mechanism for the recognition of political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was not clear if the 222 people expelled on Thursday matched this group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
