{"id":6299,"date":"2023-04-13T13:03:34","date_gmt":"2023-04-13T17:03:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/miaminewsnetwork.com\/?p=6299"},"modified":"2023-04-13T13:03:35","modified_gmt":"2023-04-13T17:03:35","slug":"historic-rain-hits-south-florida-schools-and-the-fort-lauderdale-airport-close","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miaminewsnetwork.com\/?p=6299","title":{"rendered":"Historic rain hits South Florida: schools and the Fort Lauderdale airport close"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The historic rain in the Fort Lauderdale area was described to CNN as a &#8220;1 in 1,000 year event, or more,&#8221; according to meteorologist Ana Torres-V\u00e1zquez of the National Weather Service&#8217;s forecast office in Miami.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rainfall of 20 to 25 inches is similar to what the area can receive with a high-level hurricane over the course of more than a day, Torres-V\u00e1zquez explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis amount of rain in a 24-hour period is incredibly rare in South Florida,\u201d said Torres-V\u00e1zquez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between 355 and 508 mm of rain fell from noon on Wednesday until early Thursday morning, according to the Meteorological Service.
