{"id":8767,"date":"2025-09-23T08:37:58","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T12:37:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/miaminewsnetwork.com\/?p=8767"},"modified":"2025-09-23T08:37:59","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T12:37:59","slug":"new-us-fed-governor-says-rates-should-be-around-mid-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/miaminewsnetwork.com\/?p=8767","title":{"rendered":"New US Fed governor says rates should be around \u2018mid-2%\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The US Fed governor newly appointed by President Donald Trump argued Monday for significantly lower interest rates, signaling that concerns over inflation may be overblown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI believe the appropriate Fed funds rate is in the mid-two percent area, almost two percentage points lower than current policy,\u201d said Federal Reserve Governor Stephen Miran at the Economic Club of New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his first policy speech since joining the central bank, Miran warned that \u201cleaving short-term interest rates roughly two percentage points too tight risks unnecessary layoffs and higher unemployment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last week, Miran was the sole dissenter to the Fed\u2019s decision to cut interest rates by a quarter point, instead favoring a larger half-point reduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Monday, he laid out an argument on why the \u201cneutral rate\u201d of interest \u2014 the level that neither stimulates nor slows the economy \u2014 has dropped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is due to immigration restrictions, tariffs and tax policy changes, he believes.
