Food giant Campbell\u2019s has dismissed as \u201cabsurd\u201d claims allegedly made by a senior executive, who has since been placed on leave, that its soups are made with \u201c3D-printed\u201d chicken and consumed by \u201cpoor people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The company said Martin Bally, a vice president and chief information security officer, had been put on temporary leave pending an investigation, after an employee lawsuit accused him of making racist comments and denigrating Campbell\u2019s products during an hour-long, expletive-laced rant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The employee, Robert Garza, said the comments were made in a conversation he secretly recorded and later shared with a local media outlet in Michigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the audio, a voice \u2014 allegedly Bally\u2019s \u2014 is deriding Campbell\u2019s \u201chighly processed foods\u201d as \u201cshit for \u2026 poor people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBioengineered meat \u2014 I don\u2019t wanna eat a piece of chicken that came from a 3-D printer,\u201d he reportedly says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Garza, who charges the company fired him for reporting the rant, said Bally also called Indian employees \u201cidiots\u201d and stressed how he disliked working with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Campbell\u2019s brand enjoys iconic status at home and abroad, and is best known for its line of canned soups which Andy Warhol made the subject of a series of paintings that became synonymous with the artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While Campbell\u2019s acknowledged using genetically modified crops such as corn and soybean, the chicken \u201ccomes from long-trusted\u201d federally-approved suppliers \u201cand meets our high quality standards,\u201d it said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe comments heard on the recording about our food are not only inaccurate, they are absurd,\u201d Campbell\u2019s said. \u201cWe do not use lab-grown chicken or any form of artificial or bioengineered meat in our soups. We are proud of the food we make and the high-quality ingredients we use.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
